‘New OPIC building will be ready December’

The new eight-storey office complex being contructed by the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation is expected to be completed by December, when it will be inaugurated.

The building, located in the Okelewo area, which is expected to be the tallest in Abeokuta on completion, is in close proximity to the current multi-storey building housing the OPIC corporate office, with residents already referring to the old and new building as the "Twin Towers."

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OPIC, Mr. Kola Omobo hinted of the scheduled completion when Otunba Gbenga Daniel, visited the complex on Thursday, to assess the level of work on the project, which started over a year ago.

Omobo added that with the rate of work on the building, the completion projection was feasible, while commending the commitment of the contractors.

He said, "With the level of work on this site, we are sure this building will be ready for inauguration by or before December this year. The economic situation has not helped our initial projection but we have been able to re-adjust and this project is becoming a reality."

Omobo explained that the project, on which the corporation had committed N500m, was being funded by the internally generated revenue of the organisation.

Daniel noted that the building was the "signature" of the proposed New Abeokuta City Centre, which would also incorporate the old state secretariat, which was vacated last year by civil servants.

The governor confirmed that the project was being funded from the IGR of OPIC.
